SRAM S80 Rear Wheel - Clincher

SRAM S80 Rear Wheel - Clincher:
The SRAM S80 rear clincher wheel is as much a study in economics as it is aerodynamics. The combination of factors that make the S80 clincher possible provide a unique value. Here's the inside story.
When SRAM acquired Zipp they bought the full scope of Zipp's legendary engineering and domestic manufacturing capability. This means that for the first time ever a true Zipp quality wheel set built on a value oriented, precision sealed bearing hub was possible. SRAM already controlled the manufacturing capability for the hub. All that was left for the two resources to be combined in the ultimate synergy of performance and value: SRAM Wheels were born.
THe SRAM S80 uses a domestic manufactured 82 mm deep structural carbon fiber rim handmade at Zipp outside Zipp outside Indianapolis, Indiana. This is Zipp's advanced shape toroidal rim with a complex melding of changing radii along the side of the rim for optimal strength, aerodynamics and ride quality. If you look closely at the rim profile you will notice the complexity of this shape- it is not a simple "V" section but something much more advanced and complex
The advanced rim used in the SRAM S80 rear clincher is laced to an imported, sealed precision bearing hub using 18 of Sapim's legendary bladed spokes laced radially in the front and 20 Sapim spokes in the back in a stable, robust cross-two pattern. The spoke nipples? Alloy, of course, to reduce rotating weight at the critical outer circumference for better climbing and acceleration- and even better braking.
The SRAM S80 may be the perfect combination of the three factors in the "Wheel Performance Triad": Aerodynamics, durability and weight. For rolling terrain, frequent cornering and accelerations/decelerations along with gusty wind conditions this wheel set is an optimal convergence of mechanical reliability, aerodynamics, light weight and value. Bang for the buck- the new SRAM 80 clincher wheel has detonated the high performance wheel market.
